Apple: 16GB Storage Frees Up Resources

While we pretty much love everything that Apple does here at Daily iPhone Blog, there are some aspects of the company that still mystify us. Chief among those and a regular debating point in our office is why the company persists in offering 16GB as a base storage (for the iPhone and iPad) in a world where people consume media in huge amounts online and via downloading? Apple’s Phil Schiller has explained (sort of) why the company does still offer 16GB, speaking to “The Talk Show” podcast the marketing man said: "The belief is more and more as we use iCloud services for documents and our photos and videos and music that perhaps the most price-conscious customers are able to live in an environment where they don't need gobs of local storage because these services are lightening the load." He also attempted to say that not focusing on higher storage left resources for other areas, but considering Apple is the richest company in the world, we simply are not buying that excuse. Uppdateringen brickade en del Apple Watch Igår kväll släppte Apple den senaste uppdateringen av watchOS till Apple Watch men nu har man dragit tillbaka watchOS 5.1 rapporterar flera källor. Anledningen till det sägs vara att en del Apple Watch blev helt obrukbara efter att deras användare installerat watchOS 5.

I royaltykostnader Den juridiska tvisten mellan Apple och Qualcomm ser ut att fortsätta och nu uppger Qualcomm att Apple är skyldiga dem 7 miljarder dollar i royaltykostnader. Den juridiska tvisten mellan de båda företagen har pågått sedan förra året och Apple anser att Qualcomm dubbedebiterar de för chippen som sitter i iPhone. Qualcomm hävdar å sin sida att Apple försöker att förstöra deras affärsmodell skriver nyhetsbyrån Reuters.

Ladda klockan genom MacBook Pro Apple har släppt en ny trådlös batteriladdare som är försedd med en USB-C-kontakt till skillnad från den traditionella batteriladdaren som är försedd med en USB-A-kontakt. Det gör det möjligt att ladda Apple Watch direkt från en MacBook Pro eller andra maskiner med stöd för USB-C. USB-C-versionen av batteriladdaren är av den lite exklusivare modellen där vissa detaljer är metall istället för i vit plast.

Livet strular fortfarande Tidigare i år levererade LinusTechTips en video om lite bekymmer gänget haft med Apple när det kommer till reparation av deras iMac Pro. Mer specifikt behövde gänget ersätta komponenter i datorn, men möttes av motstånd från Apple som inte hade någon lust att utföra reparationen. Nu har gänget levererat en uppdatering på iMac Pro-berättelsen och livet är fortfarande rätt problematiskt då Apple sätter käppar i hjulet för certifierade Apple-reparatörer.

Ny version av Apple Maps på gång

Ombyggd från grunden Apple har tagit fram en helt ny version av sin kartapp Apple Maps som man planerar att lansera i samband med att man släpper iOS 12 till alla iPhone- och iPad-användare senare i år. Den nuvarande Apple Maps-appen använder data från Apples partner TomTom och data som hämtas från OpenStreetMap. Den nya versionen av Apple Maps kommer att baseras på data som Apple själv har samlat in med sina "streetview"-bilar de senaste fyra åren.

Apple is continuing to make significant strides in the enterprise market and through the third quarter of this year (June 1 to September 30) the company was responsible for 66% of all enterprise devices activated. The company’s iOS platform, which includes iPhones and iPads, led the way in the market and rose 2% compared to the 64% enterprise activations in the second quarters. Interestingly Apple made the most headway in the tablet market, with the company’s iPad accounting for 71% of all enterprise slates activated in Q3.

Apple continues to sell huge amounts of iPhones, despite missing optimistic analyst prediction the company is thriving and making vastly more money than any other mobile brand. CEO Tim Cook was in good mood after Cupertino’s fiscal fourth quarter earnings call, saying the company is taking the fight to Android and starting to make serious headway in China. Cook claimed that a massive 30% of all iPhone sales in the last quarter came from consumers who were switching to Apple’s iOS from Android.
