Merging iOS with OS X is a “waste of energy” according to Apple executives

Don't expect Apple to follow Microsoft's move to merge all of its operating systems under one common interface or resource. Doing so would be a "waste of energy" according to Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of marketing. Schiller made the comment in an interview with Macworld in which he and lead software engineer Craig Federigh discussed the history and vision of Mac computers. Federigh explained why iPhones and MacBooks shouldn't run the same software by saying: "The reason OS X has a different interface than iOS isn't because one came after the other or because this one's old and this one's new. Apple börjar dela positionsdata med SOS-operatörer

Kan rädda liv Apple har meddelat att det i deras kommande operativsystem iOS 12 kommer att finnas en funktion som delar med sig av postionsdata till larmoperatörer. Det innebär att den som ringer det amerikanska larmnumret 911 med en iPhone automatiskt kommer att dela med sig av sin position vilket kan vara oumbärligt för att polis, brandkår eller ambulans ska hitta fram. Positions-datan kommer bara att skickas till det larmcentret som tar emot larmsamtalet och kommer inte att delas på något annat sätt.

Oprah Winfrey ska göra tv åt Apple

Har tecknat ett flerårigt avtal Igår bevisade Apple verkligen att man kommer att bli att räkna med på tv-marknaden i framtiden. Sent på fredag kväll så meddelade Apple att man hade slutit ett flerårigt avtal med Oprah Winfrey, en kvinna som jag antar får räknas som en av de större tv-personligheterna som finns. Apple skriver i ett kort uttalande: "Apple today announced a unique, multi-year content partnership with Oprah Winfrey, the esteemed producer, actress, talk show host, philanthropist and CEO of OWN.

Säkerhetsföretag säger sig redan ha knäckt tidslåset på iOS

Det som förhindrar USB-tillgång till iPhone I veckan bekräftade Apple att man har implementerat en funktion i iOS som gör att det inte blir möjligt att tanka data via USB från en iPhone om denna inte varit upplåst på en timma. Detta gör Apple gör att skydda användarnas data och integritet men det ställer givetvis till det lite för polisen om de vill undersöka vad brottsmisstänkta har i sina telefoner. Polisiära myndigheter har under flera år haft problem med att komma åt data från iPhones men har den senaste tiden haft tillgång till verktyg som gjort att det gått att komma in i låsta iPhones.

Apple släpper nya riktlinjer för iOS Under WWDC släppte Apple lite nya riktlinjer för appar till iOS i App Store. De nya riktlinjerna innebär bland annat att appar som genererar kryptovalutor inte längre tillåts i App Store. Det handlar dels om appar vars enda syfte är att gräva kryptovalutor men även appar som gräver kryptovalutor i bakgrunden för att låta utvecklaren eller användaren tjäna några kronor på det.

Apple Watch ryktas få touch-kontroller

Fimpar klockans fysiska knappar? Fast Company har varit i kontakt med källor som gör gällande att Apple kanske dumpar Apple Watch fysiska knappar. Istället planerar Apple att byta ut knapparna mot touch-kontroller liknande de som återfinns på iPhone 7 och senare iPhone-modeller.

Inte speciellt mycket snabbare... När Apple presenterade iOS 12 under WWDC så skröt man stolt över att gamla enheter skulle bli betydligt snabbare med iOS 12. Det var många "2x" på skärmen och det verkade som att man skulle få helt nytt liv i sina prylar.

Siri kommer att kunna styra Spotify i iOS 12

Fast bara en smula En av nyheterna i iOS 12 är Siri Shortcuts, appar kan göra så att funktioner i dem går att styras med röstkommandon som man sätter själv. Under en utvecklarsession på WWDC berättade Apple att det finns en möjlighet till kommandot Play Media, vilket gör att Spotify i teorin skulle kunna bygga in möjligheten att starta en spellista. Men vi säger i teorin eftersom detta inte riktigt är bevisat.

Apple is continuing to make significant strides in the enterprise market and through the third quarter of this year (June 1 to September 30) the company was responsible for 66% of all enterprise devices activated. The company’s iOS platform, which includes iPhones and iPads, led the way in the market and rose 2% compared to the 64% enterprise activations in the second quarters. Interestingly Apple made the most headway in the tablet market, with the company’s iPad accounting for 71% of all enterprise slates activated in Q3.

Apple continues to sell huge amounts of iPhones, despite missing optimistic analyst prediction the company is thriving and making vastly more money than any other mobile brand. CEO Tim Cook was in good mood after Cupertino’s fiscal fourth quarter earnings call, saying the company is taking the fight to Android and starting to make serious headway in China. Cook claimed that a massive 30% of all iPhone sales in the last quarter came from consumers who were switching to Apple’s iOS from Android.
