Merging iOS with OS X is a “waste of energy” according to Apple executives

Don't expect Apple to follow Microsoft's move to merge all of its operating systems under one common interface or resource. Doing so would be a "waste of energy" according to Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of marketing. Schiller made the comment in an interview with Macworld in which he and lead software engineer Craig Federigh discussed the history and vision of Mac computers. Federigh explained why iPhones and MacBooks shouldn't run the same software by saying: "The reason OS X has a different interface than iOS isn't because one came after the other or because this one's old and this one's new. Finns tillgänglig som betaversion nu iPhone Xs och syskonet Xs Max är riktigt kompetenta pjäser, men vissa användare har rapporterat om lite bekymmer när det kommer till laddningen. Vissa enheter vill nämligen inte ladda när skärmen är avstängd, vilket inte är så värst optimalt. Apple verkar vara medvetna om bekymret och kommer fixa detta med den kommande uppdateringen iOS 12.

Netflix testar nytt betalsätt

För att komma runt Apples avgifter i iTunes TechCrunch rapporterar att Netflix försöker hitta ett sätt som deras iOS-användare ska kunna använda för att betala sin prenumeration istället för att göra detta genom Apples iTunes. Anledningen till detta är givetvis att Apple tar 30 procent av alla transaktioner som sker genom iTunes och det tycker antagligen Netflix är rätt onödigt att betala om det går att undvika. Även Spotify, en annan av Apples konkurrenter, använder sig sedan tidigare av ett liknande betalsätt för att runda Apples avgifter.

Apple raderar 25.000 appar från App Store i Kina

Lotteri- och gambling-appar försvinner Den kinesiska nyhetskanalen CCTV uppger att Apple har raderat runt 25.000 appar från den kinesiska versionen av iOS App Store vilket ska ha varit ungefär 1,4 procent av alla appar som fanns i App Store vid tillfället. Enligt den CCTV så handlade det om olagliga appar som till exempel sålde falska lotter samt appar som användes för betting och gambling.

Google fixar stöd för hörapparater i Android

Gör som Apple Google har tagit fram specifikationer för att streama ljud från androidtelefoner till hörapparater via Bluetooth utan att detta ska ta så mycket batteri som Bluetooth-kopplingar vanligtvis gör. Google kallar specifikationen för ASHA (Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids) och det ska vara utvecklat för att dra så lite batteri som det bara är möjligt från både telefonen och hörapparaten. För att åstadkomma detta använder man Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) som Bluetooth standardorganisation Bluetooth SIG släppte under namnet "Bluetooth Smart" 2011.

Gruppsamtal i FaceTime borta i senaste iOS-betan

Kommer senare i höst I den senaste betan av iOS som släpptes till utvecklare i dag är en sak borta - gruppsamtal i FaceTime. Så här säger Apple om saken: Group FaceTime has been removed from the initial release of iOS 12 and will ship in a future software update later this fall. Man verkar alltså inte vara redo för release riktigt ännu och funktionen kommer i höst, men troligen först i 12.

Apples betaversioner har fyra miljoner användare

Många som vill testa nya grejer Förra månaden börjad Apple testa betaversioner av sina operativsystem iOS 12, watchOS 5, tvOS 12 samt macOS 10.14 Mojave och nu har man sagt hur många som använder dessa. Det var Apples vd Tim Cook som tidigare uppgav att sammanlagt fyra miljoner användare körde beta-versioner av de fyra operativsystemen.

Apple is continuing to make significant strides in the enterprise market and through the third quarter of this year (June 1 to September 30) the company was responsible for 66% of all enterprise devices activated. The company’s iOS platform, which includes iPhones and iPads, led the way in the market and rose 2% compared to the 64% enterprise activations in the second quarters. Interestingly Apple made the most headway in the tablet market, with the company’s iPad accounting for 71% of all enterprise slates activated in Q3.

Apple continues to sell huge amounts of iPhones, despite missing optimistic analyst prediction the company is thriving and making vastly more money than any other mobile brand. CEO Tim Cook was in good mood after Cupertino’s fiscal fourth quarter earnings call, saying the company is taking the fight to Android and starting to make serious headway in China. Cook claimed that a massive 30% of all iPhone sales in the last quarter came from consumers who were switching to Apple’s iOS from Android.
